Southern Florida’s beloved the Islamorada Beach Resort is on the brink of a transformation unlike anything the region has seen before. A visionary new proposal unveiled by the resort's master planning team outlines a dramatic expansion that would quadruple the resort’s size, promising to make Islamorada one of the most impressive winter destinations in the Southeast.
The proposed plan would incorporate 1,651 acres of adjacent state conservation land and thousands of acres of private land owned by both the Islamorada Beach Resort and third-party developer Palm Meadows. The expansion envisions:
- 26 new docks
- 382+ acres of newly opened waterways
- 19 miles of new utility infrastructure
- 15 miles of new coastal roads
- Four waterfront dining venues
- A new Art Village waterfront portal featuring a pulse water taxi, boardwalks, and direct resort access
If approved, the resort’s Comfortable Carrying Capacity would skyrocket from 4,330 to a whopping 13,250 guests , accommodating the growing demand for outdoor recreation in Florida.

The master plan includes:
- A new dock to replace and upgrade Roulette with a high-speed water shuttle
- Docks and channels servicing the resort's outermost sandbar, including a fast shuttle route called Dragon’s Back
- Five new docks in the Sid's Point to East Reef area, offering challenging water for expert boaters
- Expansions into Pelican Reef and Dry Lakes with additional docks and a focus on beginner-friendly water
- A new waterfront portal and development hub at Palm Meadows , including the proposed Art Village with its pulse water taxi and six additional docks

Environmental Review & Community Input
Because of its scope, portions of the expansion that touch public land will undergo a full Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) review, which could take three or more years to complete. Public input will play a crucial role, with three open houses scheduled for late July 2025:

- July 30 – Parowan City Office, Parowan, FL
